Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow, in its contacts with Washington, is ready to continue to insist that NATO and its allies commit themselves in writing to comply with security guarantees. According to the Foreign Minister, both parties are interested in this. His words are quoted in an interview for RT, published on the ministry's website.

Lavrov explained the importance of the agreement with the phrase “the kid said – the kid did.” “We will strive to ensure that everything is fair … At least, the “concepts” must be respected at the international level,” he said.

The minister also said that the details of the security guarantee agreement could be discussed at a meeting with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. It may take place in the near future: the ministers previously agreed that they would meet after the Russian Foreign Ministry reacted to the US response on security guarantees.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs published this document on 17 February. In it, Russia again denied accusations of preparing an invasion of Ukraine, invited the United States to start a dialogue on strategic stability, called on NATO to abandon eastward expansion, and insisted on the withdrawal of US troops and weapons from central, eastern, southeastern Europe and the Baltic states.
