Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov denied the West the opportunity to “rule the world.” He is quoted by RIA Novosti.
In his opinion, the leaders of the Western countries also understand this. The diplomat noted that the Group of Twenty (G20), in particular, arose due to the failures of the Big Seven (G7).
Lavrov also commented on Moscow's position on the Open Skies Treaty (DON). According to the Foreign Minister, Moscow will remain in the Don only if the other participants comply with it.
Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Russia does not exclude the possibility of withdrawing from the Don after the United States. He noted that Washington, if the new presidential administration decides to return to the Treaty, will have to do so on worse terms.
The United States has ceased to be a party to the Open Skies Treaty since Sunday, November 22. The American side explained its position by the fact that Moscow allegedly does not comply with the points of the agreement. The White House also said that during flights over the United States, Russia monitored the whereabouts of US President Donald Trump. Moscow denies Washington's accusations.
The Open Skies Treaty was signed in 1992. According to the document, the participating countries can make reconnaissance flights over each other's territory in order to monitor military activities and compliance with existing treaties in the field of arms control.
