Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the trilateral statement on the end of the war in Nagorno-Karabakh adopted by Moscow, Baku and Yerevan on November 9 as uncontested. On Saturday, November 21, RIA Novosti reports.

Lavrov visited Yerevan as part of the Russian delegation. According to him, the negotiations were “comprehensive”, the main attention was paid to the tasks related to ensuring “clear and full” implementation of the ceasefire agreement.

“It was recognized by everyone that this statement was an uncontested way of resolving the situation, which acquired a very, very acute character a few weeks ago,” Lavrov stressed.

On September 27, 2020, Azerbaijan reported that Armenian troops attacked its positions in Karabakh and announced a counteroffensive. Yerevan stated that the enemy attacked the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.

During the fighting, the Azerbaijani army occupied part of the territory, including the strategically important city of Shushi. On November 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a ceasefire statement, according to which the belligerents remained in their positions.

Three more regions will be transferred under the control of Baku by December 1. Russian peacekeepers are stationed along the line of contact and the corridor connecting Karabakh with Armenia.

Azerbaijan considered the results of the war a victory. Riots began in Armenia, demanding Pashinyan's resignation.
