Russia has the opportunity to reach an agreement with the North Atlantic Alliance on security guarantees in Europe. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, answering a question from President Vladimir Putin. The broadcast of their official meeting is available on RBC's YouTube channel.
Lavrov reminded the president that the Russian side in its dialogue with NATO insists on the inadmissibility of endless talks on issues that need to be resolved now. “But still, being the head of the Foreign Ministry, I must say that there is always a chance,” Sergey Lavrov said.
He also noted Moscow's regular contacts with representatives of Western countries, both held and planned – the visit of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the foreign ministers of Italy and Poland.
“Still, our consistent explanatory work and commitment to explaining our innocence and being ready to listen to serious counter-arguments, it seems to me that our possibilities are far from being exhausted. They (discussions) should not continue indefinitely, but at this stage I would suggest continuing and building them up, ”the Foreign Minister added.
Earlier, speaking with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Sergei Lavrov pointed to the West's disregard for the key provisions of the mentioned documents for Russia – in particular, it is about the non-expansion of the North Atlantic Alliance and the non-deployment of strike weapons systems near Russian borders.
