Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov did not rule out that Western countries want to arrange a “little war” in Ukraine and blame Moscow for it. Under such a pretext, they will be able to impose sanctions against it and deprive it of competitive opportunities, the diplomat said. He stated this on the air of “Soloviev Live”.

“It is rudeness to speak from the positions that the West and NATO now occupy. They are encouraged by the Balts, Poles and Ukrainians, it is absolutely obvious … They are pumping [Ukraine] with weapons, boasting that since 2014 they have supplied ammunition and strike systems worth 2.5 billion dollars, ”the minister was indignant.

He advised everyone who violates the Minsk armistice agreements in Donbass to blame themselves.

Western countries do allow for increased sanctions against Moscow in the event that it starts an invasion of Ukraine. Moscow has denied accusations of such intent. Nevertheless, on December 17, the leaders of the 27 countries of the European Union unanimously decided to extend the economic sanctions against Russia. The head of the EU Council Charles Michel said that the Kremlin will face serious consequences if Moscow “takes further military action against Ukraine.” In addition, the EU called on the Russian side to start implementing the Minsk agreements.
