Latvia recognizes Russia as state sponsor of terrorism

by alex

The Saeima of Latvia has recognized Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism. He also officially called on the EU countries to limit the issuance of visas to citizens of the Russian Federation and Belarus.

So, on August 11, the Seimas approved a statement that Russia's violence directed at the civilian population and carried out to achieve political goals is terrorism, and Russia itself is a state that supports terrorism. Latvia calls on “other like-minded countries” to express the same opinion, as well as to immediately suspend the issuance of tourist and entry visas to citizens of the Russian Federation and Belarus.

This is stated on the website of the Latvian Seimas.

“For many years, Russia has supported and financed terrorist regimes and organizations in various ways – directly and indirectly – as the largest supplier of weapons to the Assad regime in Syria and as an enforcement agency in cases such as the poisoning of the Fiddler family or the downing of the MH-17 aircraft. In Ukraine, Russia has adopted a similar brutal, immoral and illegal tactic, using inaccurate and internationally banned weapons and ammunition, targeting civilians and public places with disproportionate brutality.

Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale attack on Ukraine on February 24, twelve million Ukrainians have been forced to leave their homes, and more than five million have left their country, the Seimas said in a statement. It is also noted that during this time a number of human rights groups and international monitoring missions reported atrocities committed by the Russian armed forces against the civilian population of Ukraine, including torture, rape, murder and mass detention of civilians in the so-called filtration centers, as well as mass deportations.< /p>

Parliamentarians categorically condemned the military aggression of the Russian Federation and the large-scale invasion of Ukraine, carried out with the support and participation of the Belarusian regime. The Latvian authorities called on the EU and its partners to urgently strengthen and introduce comprehensive sanctions against Russia.

Recall that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba stressed that it is necessary to recognize Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism as soon as possible, since from February 24 the Russians committed all the crimes listed in the Rome Statute.

According to him, the recognition of Russia as a sponsor of terrorism will impose additional sanctions on it, deepen the international isolation of the Russian regime and completely destroy the remnants of Russia's reputation for many decades.
