Erich Hasenkopf with the then ÖFB team

Football Austria mourns a legend! Former national player Erich Hasenkopf died at the age of 87.

The defender and outside runner was part of the legendary team of the Vienna Sports Club. In 1958 and 1959 Hasenkopf won the last championship title of the black and whites with the Dornbachers.

Hasenkopf caused a sensation internationally with the sports club, playing the legendary 7-0 win against Juventus Turin in October 1958.

The Viennese played in the national team between 1956 and 1964, including beating the reigning European champions Soviet Union 3-1 in 1960.

Of the ÖFB team at that time, only Rudi Flögel (81) and Walter Skocik (80) are still alive.
