Japanese scientists decided to find a new way to speed up the Internet. This time, for these purposes, specialists decided to turn their attention to laser technology.
Of course, we are talking about a custom laser with “electroabsorption modulator and integrated distributed feedback (EA-DFB) with lumped elements (LE)”. Scientists have learned with its help to transmit signals at speeds up to 224 Gbit / s at a distance of up to 2 km.
Novus LIght [writes] (https://www.novuslight.com/ofc-2021-optical-advances-help-enable-800-gb-ethernet_N11650.html] that instead of 100-gigabit channels, experts decided to create four 200- gigabit, which made it possible to achieve speeds of 800 Gbps.
According to experts who took part in this scientific work, the new technology may not only be interesting in terms of speed, but also cheapness and energy consumption.
“With the growth of streaming data and other Internet services, internal communication channels will require higher speeds – 1.6 terabits per second and higher,” the scientists noted.
