Moscow. October 21. INTERFAX.RU – The fossilized remains of the largest (found) dinosaur, Triceratops, Big John, were sold at an auction in the French capital, according to BBC News.
A private US collector who chose not to reveal his name bought a dinosaur skeleton for € 6.65 million. The lot was put on public display at the Drouot auction house in Paris last week. The auction took place on October 21st.
About 66 million years ago, Big John lived in what is now South Dakota in the United States, where his bones were discovered in 2014.
Paleontologists managed to find 60% of the dinosaur skeleton. The skeleton of 200 parts, including a skull 2 meters wide, was assembled by specialists in Trieste (Italy). There are traces of damage on the skull, which, according to the researchers, indicate the participation of Triceratops in battles. The skeleton is 8 meters long.
