Passengers reported very strong winds in the cabin, which even tore phones out of people's hands. All passengers were seated and wearing seat belts during the emergency landing. One of the passengers held her baby tightly.
The airline said it would temporarily ground flights using all 65 737 Max 9 aircraft to carry out inspections. Boeing said they are aware of the incident and are also investigating it.
“My heart goes out to those on that plane – I'm deeply saddened by what you experienced,” said Ben Minicucci, CEO of Alaska Airlines, adding that every plane will be returned to operation only after complete maintenance and safety checks.
