Scientists at the Swedish University of Umeå reported that in the first two weeks after suffering a coronavirus infection, the patient's risk of developing dangerous cardiovascular diseases significantly increases, writes The Lancet, citing the work of specialists.
The authors compared the incidence of acute myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke in people with COVID-19 and members of a control group, which included patients who underwent these conditions, but were not infected with coronavirus. Scientists found that coronavirus increased the risk of developing these diseases by about three times. They noted that dependence persists even after taking into account age, gender and socioeconomic factors.
The study of scientists involved 86,742 patients. According to the authors, this is the largest such study.
Earlier, the oldest scientific journal Lancet wrote about the first vaccine in the world, invented by Russian scientists at the Gamaleya Center, Sputnik V. Its high efficiency in the fight against coronavirus has been noted.
