During a walk on the lake, a boat with passengers capsized. Six people died, two are missing.
A motorboat has capsized in Lake Tahoe in the US state of California, leaving at least six people dead and two missing.
The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office reported this, The Guardian reports.
The Coast Guard says the 27-foot vessel capsized after being hit by a large wave near DL Bliss State Park. The incident occurred Saturday afternoon. Two passengers survived and were taken to the hospital.
Rescue services continue to search for the missing. Search and diving teams are expected to return to the operation on Sunday morning. The names of the deceased are not being released yet – they are awaiting confirmation from relatives.
According to local residents, there was a strong wind blowing over the lake that day, which caused a disturbance on the water.
“It was a very, very tragic day on Lake Tahoe,” boat captain Joby Cefalu told South Tahoe News.
