The Kremlin did not expect such a sharp turn of events.

Moscow was shaken by Ukraine's bold invasion of Russia, catching many people by surprise, including some of the most famous propagandists Kremlin.

During Monday's broadcast of “Meeting Place” on the NTV channel, Andrei Fyodorov, former deputy minister of foreign affairs of Russia, was not greedy for words, denying even the deceptive title of the story. He noted: “As long as we live with headlines like 'The Agony of the Regime,' we will lose, because we are constantly lying: about the weakness of the Ukrainian army and everything it lacks… Ukraine has about 20,000 people near the Belgorod region who can participate.”

Host Andrey Norkin responded: “The most disgusting thing is that we overestimate our strength and underestimate the enemy. I think this is very important, because people, of course, ask: 'How could this happen?'.

Fedorov noted that the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine allegedly called the Kursk operation “The Sinking of Kursk.”

Citing unnamed sources, Fedorov claimed that Ukraine had been preparing the invasion of Kursk Oblast for about two and a half months and had thought a lot through. He claimed that the seizure of the vitally important Sudzha gas hub in Kursk Oblast was aimed at forcing Russian forces to destroy it.

At the same time, political editor Maxim Yusin called on Russians to abandon illusions and return to reality. He asked: “What should we do to calm down? We should try a cynical, less emotional approach, even if it is insanely difficult. We should look at the map of Russia and compare these lost territories with the enormous size of Russia.”

Yusin argued that the Russians should prepare for the worst outcome by evacuating all their border regions and assuming that the Ukrainians will entrench themselves there for the next months. He added: “We have to be prepared for the scenario that we might have to sacrifice these territories – by the will of God, without people – for a certain period of time. The Ukrainians can gain a foothold there, perhaps for six months or so.”

Vladimir Rogov, the Russian-appointed official in the part of the temporarily Moscow-controlled southern Zaporizhia region, ignored the recommendation. Completely disregarding their true nationality, he called the Ukrainians “the South Russian people”, who have been in a state of war for hundreds of years and who must be taught to seek peace.

Let us add that the Ukrainian army is capturing new territories in Kursk region.
