Kosovo President Accused of Hundred Murders Resigns

President of unrecognized Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, resigned amid the Hague Tribunal indictments of war crimes and the murder of hundreds of people. Reported by Reuters.

“I am resigning from today,” Thaci said. He added that the special prosecutor's office for Kosovo in The Hague had confirmed the indictment.

On June 24, at the tribunal in The Hague to investigate war crimes in Kosovo, they said that Thaci was accused of war crimes, as well as crimes against humanity, including 100 murders and numerous tortures, abductions and persecutions. In addition to him, charges were brought against nine former militants.

Hashim Thaci is the founder of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), which fought for independence from Serbia. In early 2016, he became president of the republic, before that he was the first prime minister of the republic. In 1998-1999, as a result of hostilities in the territory of the former Yugoslavia, more than 10 thousand people died, almost 2 thousand of whom are still considered missing. It is clarified that after 78 days of armed conflict, the fighting ceased after several NATO air attacks in Serbia.

Kosovo declared independence in 2008, Serbia considers it its territory. Kosovo has been recognized by more than 100 countries, Russia is not one of them.
