Today South Korea showed its first own 4 ++ generation fighter, the KF-21.
The first fighter was demonstrated in the south of the Republic of Korea in the city of Sacheon. President Moon Jae-in attended the ceremony. He said that Korea “was able to create the most modern supersonic fighter with its own hands, based on its own technologies.”
The development of the aircraft began in 2016. It was the largest defense project in the history of South Korea.
According to Rossiyskaya Gazeta, the KF-21 has “some elements of stealth technology.” The aircraft is 16.9 meters long, 4.7 meters wide, and has a wingspan of 11.2 meters. It can carry a payload of up to 7.7 thousand kilograms. The fighter is capable of speeds up to Mach 1.81. The KF-21 will replace the outdated F-4 and F-5.
It is worth noting that the plane is not yet fully ready. The final version will be made by 2026. By 2028, 40 KF-21 fighters are to be put into service.
