Knife attack in Berlin leaves two seriously injured

A man attacked passers-by with a knife in the German capital, injuring several people. Two of them received serious injuries, one victim is still in the hospital.

“The incident occurred at around 11:50 in front of the Rewe supermarket in the western Berlin district of Charlottenburg, which is considered a fairly quiet part of the capital. The crime scene is located near Charlottenburg Palace,” the report says.

According to journalists, the attacker was extremely aggressive, brandished a knife and struck without choosing a victim.

Several passersby managed to neutralize the attacker and call the police. Arriving law enforcement officers detained the man and took him to the police station.

Another German publication, Deutsche Welle, reported that the attacker was a Syrian citizen living in Sweden. The knife with which the man stabbed the victims was stolen from a supermarket.

According to journalists, there is currently no evidence to indicate that the attack was Islamist or terrorist in nature. Initial investigation data showed that the suspect may have a mental illness. He has been charged with attempted murder, and an investigation is underway.
