Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko pointed out that the West should have supported Ukraine much earlier and took measures against the alleged “Russian invasion”. He stated such a need in an interview with The Telegraph.

“The answer must be tough and unshakable and include not only disconnecting Russia from world financial markets, and the introduction of personal sanctions against senior Russian officials,” said the mayor.

The interlocutor of the publication said that, for example, it could be about providing a package of increased military assistance with the most advanced technologies and weapons.

On December 29 last year, a high-ranking US administration official at a press briefing said that Washington was ready to expand military assistance to Kiev in the event of a Russian invasion of Ukraine. He said that the United States intends to respond to Moscow, including through sanctions against the Russian economic and financial systems and by strengthening NATO's positions in the east.

In recent weeks, statements have been made in Kiev and in the West about the threat of a Russian attack on Ukraine. Moscow stresses that it has no aggressive intentions. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the information about a possible invasion empty and groundless escalation of tension.
