King Felipe VI of Spain has contracted the coronavirus. This is reported by the newspaper El Pais with reference to the Royal House.

As the publication clarifies, the disease was detected after the first symptoms appeared in the royal person. Felipe VI passed the test for COVID-19 and received a positive result. The king will spend the next seven days in quarantine. During this period, all events with his participation will be canceled.

It is noted that doctors positively assess the state of health of the monarch. He plans to continue to perform his duties remotely. Felipe VI's relatives have not shown symptoms of COVID-19.

Earlier it was reported that scientists at the University of Pennsylvania have identified a combination of antiviral drugs for effective treatment of COVID-19. It turned out that the combined use of inhibitors of pyrimidine biosynthesis with nucleoside analogues, such as the already FDA-approved remdesivir and molnupiravir, suppress coronavirus infection caused by new strains of SARS-CoV-2.
