The leader of the DPRK, Kim Jong-un, during his final speech at the end of the year at the party's plenum, mentioned the country's internal problems and declared the need to win the so-called “great mortal combat” in 2022. The agency “Yonghap” writes about this with reference to the message of the Central Telegraph Agency of Korea (CTAC).
“The Secretary General said that the battle of 2022 is a grandiose deadly battle that must be resolutely deployed and must be won without the slightest delay for the sake of the all-round development of socialism, for the sake of the great North Korean people and beloved descendants,” the text says.
Kim Jong-un also expressed confidence that the party and the North Korean people will once again achieve their greatest victory this year. At the same time, the generalization of the leader's speech published by the CTAC does not include references to the United States or South Korea.
For the past two years, Kim Jong-un has not issued New Year's messages to the nation, preferring instead to convey his thoughts to citizens in speeches following major party meetings.
At the end of 2021, the media drew attention to another change in Kim Jong-un's appearance. The North Korean leader looks slimmer than he ever did in his ten years as head of state.
