North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has apologized for the death of a South Korean official. The director of the National Intelligence Agency Seo Hoon told about this, he was quoted by the Yonghap agency.
“It is with great guilt that I think about what a great disappointment [this incident] has been for President Moon Jae-in and his South Korean counterparts,” said Kim Jong-un. It is noted that the leaders of the two countries have already exchanged personal letters.
North Korea also conducted its own investigation, according to which troops operating at the western maritime border did indeed shoot a South Korean official. Then they set fire to the “floating material” on which the man's body lay – which is why Seoul found the burnt corpse.
The find became known on September 24. The burned body of an undisclosed 47-year-old fish control secretary was found near North Korean territorial waters. According to intelligence reports of the South Korean military, the man was shot and then set on fire. The North Korean side was blamed for the incident.
