“Kill two birds with one stone”: why China is interested in dialogue with Ukraine Petro Sineoky

The visit of Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba brought the meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Xi Jinping closer. Relations between Ukraine and China have exited the “freeze” stage.

Political scientist Oleg Saakyan told Channel 24 about this, noting that a meeting between Zelensky and Xi could potentially take place. But this should not be taken as a fact. Everything will depend on many factors.

What China's actions mean

As Saakyan noted, relations between Ukraine and China have exited the “freeze” stage. At the same time, it was Beijing that decided to “freeze” everything at the time. Now China is ready to bring them out of this state.

China is doing this because of its own geopolitical ambitions. Russia has taken a number of steps that run counter to China's interests. We are talking about Putin's visit to the DPRK and the intensification of relations with Vietnam. We should not forget about Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Russia.

The intensification of relations with Ukraine against the backdrop of Moscow's steps is killing two birds with one stone. The first is demonstrating China's alleged constructiveness, that they are allegedly equidistant from Russia and Ukraine. The second is putting Moscow in its place.

For example, China is intensifying cooperation with Belarus in parallel. They even sent troops there for joint exercises, which also added gray hair to Putin.
