Kievans are no longer allowed into public transport

by alex

Kiev police stopped letting citizens into the metro, buses and trams without showing a special pass allowing them to go to work during a lockdown due to coronavirus, Strana.ua writes.

According to the newspaper, because of this decision, long queues of people wishing to get to work formed at stops, while taxi prices almost tripled due to increased demand, and the city itself was hampered by many kilometers of traffic jams. In turn, users of social networks began to complain about the lengthy process of obtaining a pass. Many enterprises that were not prohibited from working during the pandemic, including pharmacy chains, were completely refused to receive a document.

It is noted that due to the inability to get to the place of work, many people of Kiev are trying to use transport with last year's special passes, but law enforcement officers often stop them and demand to go home. The city authorities have not yet responded to the emerging situation.

The total quarantine regime in the Ukrainian capital was announced by Mayor Vitali Klitschko for the period from 5 to 16 April. At this time, the work of kindergartens and schools, catering establishments, fairs and markets was stopped. The head of the city believes that this is the only way to stop the spread of the rapid wave of coronavirus.

Earlier, the deputy head of Kiev, Volodymyr Bondarenko, said that city hospitals had run out of beds for receiving patients with COVID-19. He admitted that new patients are being accommodated in corridors and rejected the possibility of transporting them to neighboring regions. According to the latest data, more than 1.7 million people have been infected with the coronavirus in Ukraine. On March 4, the government announced the beginning of the third wave of the spread of the infection.
