Metro in Kyiv has suspended passenger traffic and completely switched to work in shelter mode. This was announced by the mayor of the city Vitali Klitschko, reports TASS on Saturday, February 26.
“The subway went into shelter mode. There will be no transportation,” he said.
Klitschko also urged residents of Kyiv not to leave their homes or shelters. “Do not go out or travel to the city, except for those who work at critical infrastructure enterprises,” he said.
On February 25, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Major General Igor Konashenkov, said that Russian paratroopers blockaded Kyiv from the western side during a special operation to protect Donbass. Prior to this, Russian military personnel conducted a successful landing operation in the area of the Gostomel airfield in the suburbs of Kyiv.
On the morning of February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special military operation in the Donbass. The head of state explained this by requests for military assistance from the heads of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DNR and LNR).
