Kaspersky Lab has planned to release a secure smartphone. The head of the company, Evgeny Kaspersky, said this in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The mobile platform based on KasperskyOS for the industrial and corporate sectors will feature enhanced protection. “This is not a phone in the usual sense of the word, that is, there will be no music, any social networks and other 'tasty' bells and whistles,” said Kaspersky.
The entrepreneur explained that from the new device it will be possible to make calls, communicate in instant messengers, answer mail, but the capabilities of the phone will be severely limited so as not to violate the security concept. Eugene Kaspersky stressed that the new platform is targeted at large corporations, but declined to name specific customers. According to the specialist, the release of the new product is scheduled for autumn.
This is not the first time that Kaspersky Lab has announced plans to release a smartphone. In December 2019, the company announced that it would develop a secure device. Kaspersky Lab specialists noted that they are talking about their own operating system, and not about another copy of Linux.
At the same time, in December 2019, Infowatch, a co-founder of Kaspersky Lab Natalya Kaspersky, closed the Taigafon protected phone project. The device was designed for civil servants, but needed large-scale investments and in the end was recognized as a failure.
