The Democratic Party candidate called on her supporters not to give up.
US Vice President Kamala Harris, who was the Democratic Party candidate in the presidential election, admitted her defeat and announced a peaceful transfer power.
She announced this on Wednesday, November 6, in a speech to her fans on stage at Howard University, CNN reports.
“The outcome of this election is not what we wanted, not what we fought for, not what we voted for,” Harris said.
The vice president said in her speech that while she understands the emotions of her supporters, the country must accept the results of the election.
“We will engage in a peaceful transition of power,” she stressed.
Kamala Harris also said that she will remain steadfast in her commitment to fight “for freedom, for opportunity, for justice and the dignity of all people.”
“While I recognize this election, I do not recognize the struggle that fueled this campaign,” she said.
At the same time, Harris added that she will never give up “the fight for a future where Americans can pursue their dreams, ambitions, and aspirations, where American women are free to make decisions about their own bodies without their government telling them what to do.”
“We will never stop fighting to keep our schools and streets free of gun violence,” she said.
Kamala Harris urged her fans not to give up.
“Sometimes the fight takes a while. That doesn't mean we won't win. Never give up. Never stop trying to make the world a better place… This is not the time to give up. It's time to roll up your sleeves. This is the time to organize, mobilize, and continue to engage for freedom and justice and the future we all know we can build together,” she concluded.
Recall that Kamala Harris previously called Donald Trump to congratulate him on his election victory.
