The 24-year-old was seriously injured and had to undergo an operation. It will probably be out for three to four months.
Sasa Kalajdzic will be out even longer than originally assumed. The Austrian national striker has to undergo an operation because of a shoulder dislocation with damage to several ligaments. This was announced by his club VfB Stuttgart on Monday. The intervention will take place in the coming days. “According to current estimates, the downtime is three to four months.” The 24-year-old will probably no longer be available this year.

Kalajdzic was injured in the final minute after his substitution in the league game on Friday evening at RB Leipzig (0: 4). The Viennese, who had just recovered from a corona infection, had dislocated his right shoulder, according to the club. Several ligaments in the joint are also damaged. Shortly after he moved from Admira to Stuttgart in summer 2019, a cruciate ligament rupture cost him almost a year.
Key player Kalajdzic
Last season, however, Kalajdzic advanced to become one of the Stuttgart's key players with 16 league goals. For Austria he has scored four times in eleven international matches, including at the end of June in the European Championship round of 16 against eventual European champions Italy (1: 2 nV). The ÖFB team now has to contest the World Cup qualifying autumn without the two-meter man.
Stuttgart wants to look around for a possible replacement by the end of the transfer on August 31. “Sasa's injury hits us hard because he plays a central role in our game and is also an important factor for our team because of his positive nature,” said VfB sporting director Sven Mislintat in a club announcement. “Unfortunately, the operation and the long downtime associated with it is inevitable, so we have to do without Sasa for a long time.”
