Foreign media representatives must bear serious criminal responsibility for their activities. This was stated by the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov during his press conference, RIA Novosti reports.
“These corrupt foreign agents should be imprisoned for life for treason, for treason, or kicked out to where they receive their fees,” he said.
During the annual big press conference on December 23, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the law on foreign agents in force in the country was invented outside its borders. He noted that the work of organizations recognized by foreign agents is not prohibited in Russia. He also said that Russian law is more liberal, as it does not imply criminal liability.
The Foreign Media Agent Act was passed in 2017 after being recognized as such by RT America in the United States. By law, a media outlet is recognized as a foreign agent if it is established that it has received funding from abroad. In this case, it is entered into the relevant register of the Ministry of Justice. Media-foreigners are required to provide detailed financial statements of all their income and expenses, data on the personnel of management and audits. They should also inform readers about their status in every post and material on their websites and social networks.
