Justifying the war and spreading fakes: Britain imposed new sanctions against Kremlin propagandists and media

by alex

On Wednesday, May 4, the UK expanded the list of restrictive measures against Russia and its citizens for aggression against Ukraine.

The new sanctions will mean that Russian businesses will no longer be able to benefit from world-class British accounting, advisory and PR services, which account for 10% of Russian imports in these sectors.

This is stated in a press release from the British government.

As British Foreign Minister Liz Truss explains, Russia is largely dependent on Western service companies in the production and export of manufactured goods, and today's measures will further strengthen economic pressure on Putin.

“Doing business with the Putin regime helps fund a war machine that is causing untold suffering across Ukraine. Cutting Russia’s access to British services will increase pressure on the Kremlin and ultimately help ensure Putin’s failure in Ukraine,” the British foreign secretary said.

Britain is also imposing sanctions against 63 individuals and entities from Russia, many of whom are associated with Russia's main propaganda media organizations.Their assets will be frozen and they will be banned from entering Britain.

Technology and Digital Economy Minister Chris Philp said that Channel One propagandists were sanctioned. The channel is notorious for spreading disinformation in Russia, justifying Putin's illegal invasion as a “special military operation.” Sanctioned war correspondents who joined Russian forces in Ukraine:

Other propaganda organizations subject to sanctions:

” The UK will continue to work closely with social media and allies to identify, expose and counter the Kremlin's disinformation operation,” the UK government said in a statement.

As reported, on Wednesday, May 4, the head of the European Commission introduced the sixth package of sanctions against Russia for its military aggression against Ukraine. Among the restrictions are the oil embargo, the disconnection of several more Russian banks from SWIFT, and the ban on state news broadcasters of the Russian Federation.
