Former judge Mykola Chaus, who was detained by the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) and then turned over to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU), was tortured. This was announced by his lawyer Rostislav Kravets on the air of the TV channel “Ukraine24”, writes “Interfax-Ukraine”.
According to him, after Chaus was kidnapped in Moldova and brought home, he was held by the Ukrainian special services. He believes that all 50 days Chaus was bedridden and severely bullied.
“For about a month he was not even allowed to wash, the lights were constantly turned on and off there. Well, this is just a little of what they did with him, ”said Kravets. He added that the dispute between the SBU and NABU over the right to keep Chausa was resolved through the intervention of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The selection of the punishment for the former judge will take place on August 4 at the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court (VAKS) of Ukraine. The meeting will be broadcast live. Chaus is already in the VAKS building under the protection of NABU.
On July 31, it was reported that employees of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau tried to recapture Judge Chaus from the SBU, who was found the day before in one of the villages near Vinnitsa. The SBU was taking the detained judge to Kiev, a chase began with the participation of special services, during which the “anti-corruption” shot down a motorcyclist. Later, the services managed to agree, and the former judge was transferred to NABU.
In 2016, the judge of the Dniprovsky district court of Kiev, Chaus, was detained by NABU officers in the case of receiving a bribe of 150 thousand dollars, which he buried in a glass jar in the garden. The judge could not be arrested due to immunity.
Soon Chaus ended up in Moldova. In April 2021, he was kidnapped in the center of Chisinau. The Minister of Internal Affairs of Moldova, Pavel Voicu, said that the judge was taken to Ukraine in the trunk of a car with diplomatic numbers. Later he was found in the village of Mazurovka, Vinnitsa region, he was detained by the SBU.
