The situation on the border between Russia and Ukraine remains very tense, but Moscow and London have a chance to fix everything if the Kremlin “takes a step back” and continues dialogue with the West, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on his personal Twitter account.

“Now [the situation around Ukraine] is very, very dangerous and complicated. We are on the brink of an abyss, but there is still time for [Russian President Vladimir] Putin to take a step back,” the British prime minister urged.

Johnson believes that if de-escalation measures are taken in time and thereby “move back from the abyss”, then the countries of the region will be able to avoid terrible consequences. Therefore, the British leader called on all parties to resume peace talks.

Earlier, Boris Johnson called on European countries to refuse to launch the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. “We need to find alternative sources of energy, and we must be ready to impose very, very serious economic restrictions on Russia,” the politician stressed.

On February 14, it became known about Johnson's plans to discuss with the leaders of the European Union (EU) ways to prevent a war in Ukraine and issues of providing defense assistance to Kiev. The office of the British Prime Minister said that he will make every effort and use the possibilities of diplomacy to de-escalate.
