British Prime Minister Boris Johnson called reports of the shelling of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR) by Ukraine “a staging to discredit the Kiev authorities.” It is reported by TASS.

“I would like to talk about more good news [on the topic of Ukraine], but I must say that the picture of what is happening remains very bleak. Today, as you probably already know, the kindergarten was shelled, which, as we understand it, was a staged [provocation] to discredit Ukrainians in order to create a pretext, a false reason for Russian actions,” the politician said.

Earlier, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss also accused Russia of trying to fabricate a pretext for an invasion. She is sure that Russia has fabricated reports of Ukraine's abnormal military activity in the Donbass.

On Thursday, February 17, the authorities of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR) and the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) accused each other of shelling and escalating the conflict in Donbass.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also reacted to the shelling in Donbass. He suggested that the escalation of the conflict is an attempt by Russia to create a pretext for invading Ukraine.
