Yoshihide Suga
The new Prime Minister of Japan, Yoshihide Suga, expressed his readiness to meet with the leader of North Korea, Kim Chem Un, without preconditions. He stated this in a video message at the UN General Assembly, RIA Novosti reports.
In particular, the prime minister pointed out the need to resolve the issue of the Japanese kidnapped by the DPRK. Suga admitted that he himself worked on it for many years. “It’s hard to imagine the pain that the departed relatives felt after they worked so hard to rescue their dear children and didn’t ultimately succeed in reuniting with them,” he said.
Sugi said that establishing a constructive relationship between Japan and North Korea will not only serve the interests of both sides, but will also help regional peace and stability.
In 2018, it was reported that Japan had asked the South Korean authorities to help hold a summit with DPRK leader Kim Jong-un. However, it never took place.
