A group of scientists from the University of Tokyo in Japan concluded that the delta strain of coronavirus infection is the most pathogenic among other variants of this disease. This was announced on Tuesday, August 3, by NHK TV channel.
Japanese scientists conducted research, the results of which helped them to artificially create viruses that carry the P681R mutation. This is the most characteristic mutation for all strains of the Indian variation of coronavirus infection.
It is known that infection with coronavirus leads to the destruction of the cells of the human body, which then merge into a single mass – synthia. As a result of experiments on rodents, Japanese experts have found that infection with the delta strain of coronavirus leads to an increased volume of synticia: it is 2.7 times the mass of similar formations when infected with other variants of coronavirus. It is this factor that causes, according to experts, a great tendency to various kinds of pathologies.
Also, animals that were infected with the virus with the P681R mutation quickly lost 4.7-6.9 percent more in weight than rodents with other strains of the disease.
As the website kp.ru wrote, on the eve of the head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, said that almost 68% of the cases of coronavirus infection detected in Russia since the beginning of July are attributable to the delta strain.
