Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has named the country's main goal for 2022. TASS reports.

Tackling the coronavirus has been his government's highest priority since taking office last October, Kishida said. He noted that thanks to the unprecedented rate of vaccination against COVID-19, the epidemic situation in the country has calmed down a bit, but Japan is facing the threat of the omicron strain of the coronavirus. The prime minister also stressed that the country's authorities will continue to give priority to measures to combat the virus and support the economy.

In November, Kishida announced that the country was closing its borders to foreigners due to the worldwide spread of the omicron strain of COVID-19. He announced that the entry ban was in effect on November 30 and applied to all foreign citizens. It is noted that an emergency measure is introduced until the moment when it is possible to find out all the information about the new variant of the virus.
