Japan is working to prevent possible cyberattacks against the structures and organizations of the Tokyo Olympics, such actions harm a democratic society. This is how the Secretary General of the Japanese government Katsunobu Kato reacted to reports of the alleged Russian attack, speaking at a press conference. RIA Novosti reports.
“Our country shows great interest and is engaged in the collection of information and analysis of everything related to cyberspace. I would like to refrain from commenting on (each) individual facts, information about them and analysis. Cyberattacks, which are harmful actions shaking the foundations of democracy, cannot be ignored, ”the agency quoted him as saying.
On October 19, it was reported that Great Britain and the United States suspected Russia of trying to disrupt the Tokyo Olympics. According to the source, Russian military intelligence allegedly planned a cyberattack at the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It is also alleged that Russian cyber intelligence had an impact on the Games organizers, logistics services and sponsors.
These messages were commented on by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo: according to him, Russia is behaving “irresponsibly”, neglecting international stability in cyberspace. Russian diplomats denied the accusations: the embassy wrote off the messages as an attempt to inflame Russophobic sentiments, witch-hunting and spy mania.
