The missiles flew about 300 km and landed outside the exclusive economic zone of Japan.

The Japanese government reacted sharply to the launch of two possible ballistic missiles at once by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea .

It is reported by The Associated Press.

“We strongly condemn a number of actions by North Korea, including repeated launches of ballistic missiles that threaten the peace and security of Japan, the region and the international community,” said Japanese Cabinet Secretary General Hirokazu Matsuno.

The launch of two short-range ballistic missiles from the Sunan region, on the territory of which the Pyongyang International Airport is located, occurred on the morning of Monday, January 17.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida instructed his government to do everything possible to collect information about missiles that flew, according to Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi, about 300 kilometers and landed outside Japan's exclusive economic zone.

The Japan Coast Guard has issued a warning to ships traveling through Japanese waters to beware of possible attacks. At the same time, there are no reports of actual damage to ships or aircraft yet. Meanwhile, a crisis headquarters has been set up in the office of the Japanese Prime Minister.

North Korea tested a hypersonic missile on January 5 and 11, and on Friday launched two ballistic missiles from a train at once, hitting targets in the Sea of Japan. Experts assess the actions of the North Korean side as revenge for new US sanctions.

Seoul University professor of North Korean studies Kim Dong Yub said that the DPRK may have carried out another launch to put pressure on Washington, and may continue to ramp up its testing activities as it vowed to take stronger action due to “US hostility”.

Last week, the US Treasury Department sanctioned five North Koreans for their role in obtaining equipment and technology for North Korea's missile programs. Subsequently, the State Department also ordered the imposition of sanctions against another North Korean, a Russian and a company from the Russian Federation.
