Japan declared sovereignty over the Kuriles

Japan's sovereignty extends to the islands of the southern group of islands in the Kuril archipelago. This was stated by the country's Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, reports TASS.

In October, according to Rambler, Suga already announced that Japan's sovereignty extends to all four islands of the southern group of islands of the Kuril archipelago – Iturup, Habomai, Shikotan and Kunashir. He called the subject of negotiations with Russia on the conclusion of a peace treaty following the Second World War, the determination of the territorial affiliation of each of them.

Yesterday Suga announced his intention to negotiate with Russia on the territorial affiliation of the Kuril Islands on the basis of previous agreements. He expressed confidence that this issue should not be passed on to future generations, it is necessary to put a final point on it.

The head of the Japanese government also said that he was striving to develop the entire range of relations with Moscow, including the conclusion of a peace treaty following the Second World War.
