Japan appreciates Lukashenka's inauguration

by alex

The Belarusian authorities held the inauguration ceremony of President Alexander Lukashenko without making any attempts for a national dialogue, which does not help improve the situation in the country. This is stated in the assessment of the Japanese Foreign Ministry on the website of the Foreign Ministry.

It is noted that, despite repeated appeals of the international community, including Japan, in Belarus they continue to detain citizens who express a peaceful protest. Against this background, Tokyo urges the Belarusian authorities to immediately stop doing this and start a national dialogue.

Earlier it was reported that the UK will punish government officials in Belarus, who, according to London, grossly violate human rights. London called Lukashenko's inauguration fraudulent and is preparing sanctions according to the “Magnitsky amendment”.

In Belarus, for the second month, mass protests have continued over the official results of the presidential elections on August 9, according to which Lukashenko won 80 percent of the vote.
