The Japanese government will allow all foreigners, except tourists, to enter the country, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said at a cabinet press conference, quoted by Japan Times.

“As for the entry of foreigners, we allow it for those who do not arrive for tourism purposes, as well as subject to supervision by the host,” said Kishida.

The prime minister did not specify the exact timing of the entry into force of the government's decision, it is likely that the opening of borders will become known later.

On February 7, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced that the country would open its borders to vaccinated foreign tourists from February 21. He noted that almost two years have passed since the decision was made to close the state borders.

On November 30 last year, Kishida announced that Japan had closed its borders to foreigners due to the spread of the omicron strain of COVID-19 around the world. It was noted that an emergency measure is being introduced until all the information about the new version of the virus can be found out.
