“It’s time to start a dialogue”: Türkiye calls on Ukraine and the Russian Federation for negotiations

According to the Turkish minister, both sides, that is, Ukraine and the Russian Federation, have now reached the limit of the results they can achieve by war.

Turkey believes that it is time to begin negotiations on a ceasefire in Ukraine and hopes that they will begin as soon as possible.

This was stated by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, reports Reuters.

Fidan met with the Foreign Minister of the aggressor country of the Russian Federation Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of the Antalya diplomatic forum. He told reporters that he discussed a number of issues with Lavrov, in particular regarding Ukraine.

“Both sides now seem to have reached the limit of what they can achieve through military means. We believe it is time to begin dialogue on a ceasefire,” Fidan said.

However, the Turkish minister clarified that the negotiations will not mean recognition of the occupation by Russia. In his opinion, issues of sovereignty and ceasefire should be discussed separately.

“The death and injury of more than 500 thousand people and the complete destruction of the infrastructure of an entire country is an unbearable reality for us. This must somehow stop. To stop this, certain discussions must take place, and everyone must get used to it opinion,” Fidan summed up.

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced his readiness to resume peace negotiations in Istanbul between Russia and Ukraine.

Recall that on February 13, Reuters wrote that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, through intermediaries, allegedly proposed to “freeze” the war in Ukraine, but the United States rejected this proposal.
