Italy's coronavirus vaccination threatened

by alex

Vaccination against coronavirus in Italy is under threat: the country has serious problems with the supply of drugs. This was announced by the COVID-19 Emergency Commissioner Domenico Arcuri, writes Cosenza Channel.

According to him, the number of delivered vaccines in the country is 60 percent less than previously planned. “We started a vaccination plan on a scheme that included the delivery of 28.6 million doses of vaccine to Italy. Now we are working according to a scheme according to which 11.2 million doses will be supplied, ”explained Arkuri.

RIA Novosti recalls that in the last weeks of January, the American company Pfizer reduced the supply of vaccine to Italy, first by 29 percent, and then by 20. The country also had problems with the vaccine company AstraZeneca: it is not recommended for people over 55 years old.

In recent weeks, the EU has faced a number of problems with the supply of coronavirus vaccines. So, on January 15, the pharmaceutical company Pfizer announced its decision to reduce the supply of the drug to European countries while modernizing its production. Then on January 23, the Bild newspaper reported that AstraZeneca would not be able to deliver the expected number of doses of its vaccine to European countries. One of the reasons for the disruption of supplies is a fire at a vaccine plant under construction in the Indian city of Pune.
