The countries of Europe are not in a situation in which there are options for sanctions against Russian gas. Such restrictions are now impossible. This was stated by Prime Minister Mario Draghi during the final press conference for the year, RIA Novosti reports.

“Let us, the Europeans, ask ourselves a question if we want to impose sanctions on gas: are we really capable of this, are we strong enough, is the moment right now? Obviously, the answers will be negative, ”said the head of the Italian government.

He also stressed that Europe today must build a dialogue with Russia. In his opinion, Russian President Vladimir Putin, through negotiations with American leader Joe Biden, has demonstrated a desire to prevent irreparable consequences for the international community.

Earlier, the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign and Security Policy Josep Borrell suspected Russia of putting pressure on Europe over the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. According to him, Russia is fulfilling its obligations to supply gas, but Moscow is using energy as an instrument of political influence.
