Italian Foreign Minister called for continued dialogue with Russia

Italian Foreign Minister Di Maio spoke about the positive prospects for negotiations with Russia

Diplomatic meetings give hope for positive prospects for further negotiations between Russia and the EU, this will be a prerequisite for reducing tensions and establishing excellent relations, Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio said at a press conference after meeting with Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. It is reported by TASS.

“We want to stress that Russia's response to Western proposals and Moscow's de-escalation efforts give us hope for positive prospects for relations between Russia and the EU. This meeting is a “brick in the foundation” of excellent relations between our countries. We are confident that [the meetings] will help reduce tensions, Italy has been and will be a country of dialogue,” Di Maio said, calling for the continuation of negotiations.

Earlier, at a press conference, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the Russian side was completing the analysis of a letter from the United States with proposals for security guarantees in Europe and was ready to send a response to Washington on February 17.
