National deficit is 9.5 percent
The Italian economy collapsed massively in 2020. The GDP fell by 8.9 percent and thus slightly more than initially assumed, said the national statistical office Istat. The national deficit is 9.5 percent. The government had expected a budget gap of 10.8 percent here.
The relative mountain of debt – debt in relation to economic power – rises to 155.6 (2019: 134.6) percent. This is the highest value in the euro zone after Greece.
