It will take archaeologists at least 10 years to excavate the site of a newly discovered ancient city in Egypt. RIA Novosti was told about this by the scientist Zahi Havas.
“The work will take at least 10 years, as we need to discover the entire city, as well as the area of the temples,” he said. The scientist clarified that several quarters have now been dug up in the lost city, there are rooms for storing food, making clothes and bricks. In the near future, archaeologists will be working on the site of the former temple area.
The fact that scientists have found the lost city – the largest ancient settlement ever found in Egypt – became known in early April. It was named The Rise of Aten after the sun god.
The age of the ruins is estimated at three and a half thousand years and dates back to the time of the reign of Pharaoh Amenhotep III. According to Egyptologists, the discovery of the lost city is the second most important archaeological discovery after the tomb of Tutankhamun. For eight months of excavations, scientists have managed to find several areas of the city with well-preserved buildings and artifacts.
In February 2021, American and Egyptian archaeologists discovered the oldest brewery in the world: it operated in the ancient Egyptian city of Abydos, which was located on the western bank of the Nile, more than 450 kilometers from modern Cairo. Experts have dated the brewery to the period of Pharaoh Narmer, who ruled at the end of the XXXI century BC and is known for the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt.
