As noted, the publication's journalists interviewed luminaries of German neurology about the health of 81-year-old US President Joe Biden. According to Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences, head of the Association of Neurologists of North Rhine-Westphalia Gereon Nellesi, Biden's health problems “go beyond the usual level of limitations” of an 80-year-old person.
“Despite all the shortcomings of remote diagnoses via TV, I have already noticed a certain hypomimia in President Biden, that is, increasingly rigid facial expressions. There is also a so-called hypophonic voice – a drawn-out, indistinct and at the same time creaky and rough timbre,” said Gereon Nelles.
At the same time, these symptoms may be caused by Parkinson's disease – but it is impossible to say definitively whether Biden suffers from it. Biden is physically limited, but mentally healthy. In addition, it is unknown “to what extent the president is subject to medical and, if necessary, drug treatment.”
“The symptoms point to a neurodegenerative disease from the Parkinson's disease group,” emphasized Professor Christoph Kleinschnitz, head of the Department of Neurology at Essen University Hospital.
The doctor pointed to frozen facial expressions, gait disturbance, a quiet voice and fluctuations in concentration. The symptoms seem “very pronounced” and “worsen relatively quickly.” The professor considers “progressive supranuclear gaze palsy (PSGP), multiple system atrophy, or dementia with Lewy bodies” possible.
“Unfortunately, these special forms of the disease hardly respond to classic Parkinson's drugs and quickly worsen. Whatever it is, I think it is unlikely that he will be able to serve as President of the United States for another four years,” the doctor noted.
Recall that the US President commented on the latest Russian terrorist missile attacks on Ukraine, noting that this demonstrates the importance of continued support for Ukraine.
