Jen Psaki
The new US administration will not come forward with a proposal to restore the G8 format with the participation of Russia. This is reported by Reuters, citing White House spokesman Jen Psaki.
Psaki noted that any initiatives to invite Russia to participate in the G7 will be put forward only in partnership with all the G7 participants.
Earlier, the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov said that Russia does not seek to return to negotiations on the G7. According to him, Moscow is satisfied with the work of the G20 summit, since this format better meets modern realities.
Russia was a member of the G8 before the annexation of Crimea in March 2014. However, after the referendum on the peninsula, the participating countries decided to abandon the G8 format.
