In 2018, a Virginia-class US submarine was ready to sink Russian naval ships off the coast of Syria. This became known to Fox News.

It is noted that April 2018 was the combat debut for the American submarine USS John Warner (“John Warner”). Then she launched six Tomahawk cruise missiles from the Mediterranean Sea into Syria. According to Fox News, the sub then “sank into the water and prepared to sink any Russian warships if they took action against any US Navy ships in the area, including one that acted as decoy and did not launch missiles into Syria.”

In April 2018, it was reported that a chlorine bomb was dropped on the Syrian Duma, and civilians were injured and killed. The West blamed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for this, as government troops then liberated the city from terrorists. The video used by the White Helmets charitable organization, in which doctors allegedly saved civilians from toxic substances, was used as evidence. On April 14 of the same year, the United States and its allies fired over a hundred cruise missiles at the republic.

The Syrian authorities have repeatedly stated that they did not use chemical weapons against civilians and terrorists, and that the chemical arsenal was removed from the country under the control of the OPCW. Russia called the attack in the Duma a staging by foreign intelligence services. Later, the OPCW found traces of chlorine on the territory of the Duma.

The Syrian civil war began in March 2011. The main participants in the conflict are government forces on the side of Bashar al-Assad, the so-called moderate opposition and Islamist groups. The opposition is supported by Turkey, Russia is helping the Assad government. Idlib is the only region in Syria that still remains largely in the hands of armed groups.
