Mufti of Damascus Sheikh Mohammed Adnan al-Afyuni, who was killed in the terrorist attack, was close to the country's President Bashar al-Assad. This became known from the message of Al Arabiya.
Several years ago, the mufti played a key role in negotiations between the government, opposition and groups operating in the countryside. Al-Afyuni was also a member of the Islamic Jurisprudence Council and Chief Administrator of the Damascus International Islamic Center for Countering Extremism. He is considered one of the leading scholars of Syria and the Islamic world.
The terrorist attack, which killed al-Afyuni, took place on the evening of October 22 in the village of Qudsei near Damascus. The criminals planted a bomb under the sheikh's car.
Al-Afyuni has been the Mufti of Damascus since 2013.
