Diplomats from eight foreign countries are present at the trial in the Moscow City Court, where a lawsuit is being considered for the liquidation of the human rights center “Memorial” (recognized in Russia as an NGO-foreign agent) . This became known from the words of the head of the press service of the Moscow City Court Dmitry Oveshnikov, reports “Interfax”.
“The court is attended by diplomats from the embassies of Spain, Estonia, Lithuania, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, the United States and Germany,” Oveshnikov said.
Earlier it was reported that Western politicians criticized the decision of the Russian court. US State Department spokesman Ned Price said Washington condemned the ruling. In Berlin, it was considered that the court deprived the victims of harassment and repression of the right to vote.
The court ruled to liquidate Memorial on December 28. The prosecutor's office cited repeated violations of the legislation on foreign agents as the reason for the claims. The center was engaged in researching Soviet repression, rehabilitating victims and helping their families.
